The Eastern Red Cedar Lumber From The Past Until The Present

By Michelle Jackson

Wood has been in existence since time began when God made the land the fruits and the trees. Lightning struck it to create fire and ancient man learned from it. Man used it for almost anything. Homes were built with this material as were weapons and tools. Great civilizations exported this to other civilizations. The most enduring and often used is the Eastern red cedar lumber.

Plant life in this world is very varied and consists of several types which include the trees. Modern biologists generally classify these as those whose seeds have only one embryo and those that have two. These are also classified into two groups. Usually fruit bearing trees and decorative trees including palms belong to one group and the pines belong to another. Others also differentiate between hardwood and softwood.

The converted material comes in many shapes and forms. Cork boards, ply boards, plywood, moldings are few examples of this conversion. This is true no matter what type it comes from. There are studies that establish classification that serves as a guide for what is the best for a given project.

In modern times, with the technology we now have, timber can be converted into lumber in so many ways using different processes. Some types need chemical treatment to improve its quality. Others though do not need to be treated as these possess natural insect and fungi repelling smell. Rarely can we find now raw logs that are sun dried except in remote areas where usage is for fuel.

Harvesting timber is very efficient today by employing advanced equipment. No longer is there a need to chop them down. Power chainsaws and buzz saws come in handy during harvesting especially in cutting off branches away from the main trunk. The hewn trunks are then moved from the harvesting area to where it will be measured and cut further.

This material has many uses and depending on what one uses it for and the quantity that is required. It is best to first canvass prices. It is easy to access websites where standards can be found and individual characteristics are described. Pick a type that will suit the need. Also look for distributors that are near for quick and easy delivery.

The converted product is used in a wide array for buildings. It can be used as the main building material for a house. It does well as a fence. Many firms use it as temporary supports. Many examples of items made from this material can be seen in any home in the form of furniture, cabinets, ceilings, moldings. Furniture shops also use large quantities of these to produce quality furniture.

Several high impact programs are now being undertaken by governments all over the world. Foremost among this is reforestation. Establishments are encouraged to plant and replenish deforested areas. Parks are also being established as well as reservations. The presence of foliage prevents flash floods. Worth noting is that the oxygen we breathe is given out by it.

The use of synthetic materials as an alternative is strongly being encouraged in the present. This is to minimize the damage being done to woodlands. More and more areas are being converted to residential lots. This has adverse effect on the tree population and corrections are in place to address it. There is a symbiotic relationship among all living things, the tree is no exception.
