Some Interesting Facts About The Double Diaphragm Pump

By David Phillips

One of the most important pieces of equipment for managing huge amounts of liquid would be the pump. Now, if one is transferring a lot of liquid of various types such as chemicals, solvents, and so on, then he or she will need what is known as a double diaphragm pump. This sort of pump is a very reliable and efficient pump with a robust built able to take those liquids.

When one would want to understand more about this piece of equipment, one would first have to know how it works. This type of pump makes use of two diaphragms that would pump liquids in and out of a liquid chamber. One of these diaphragms would pump the water in while the other one would be pushing the water out, both at the exact same time.

With regard to pumps like these, these diaphragms are actually connected to each other by a shaft and an air valve. It is the valve that would move the air from one section of the pump to the other. The overall movement of the fluid and the air is done in two strokes wherein the first stoke is the liquid going out of the pump from the first diaphragm and bringing in liquid with the other diaphragm.

While the liquids are moving the air pressure is also being built up so that the fluids can move smoother. The liquids that come in through the second diaphragm due to the pressurized air would then be stored inside a chamber. From there, the second stroke will begin.

During the second stroke, the actions of the first and second diaphragms will switch. So the first one will be the one pumping in the fluid while the second one will be the one expelling the liquids instead. At the same time, the pressurized air will also be switching places. After that stroke is done, then the cycle will just repeat again wherein the first stroke will start again followed by the second one.

One may be wondering now why this type of pump is preferred as compared to others in the market. The reason would be because of versatility. It can actually take a lot of different liquids of different consistencies.

As mentioned above, these pumps are really good for chemicals and solvents. Aside from these two types of liquids, they are also good for thick and sticky liquids such as dirty water, gel, oil, cream, and liquidized foods. Lastly, they are also useful for pumping and filtering out some small solid materials that can usually be found in dirty water.

As one can see, this type of pump has so many uses that other pumps do not have. When it comes to the handling and transferring of the really dangerous or the really hard liquids, then this is the piece of equipment that one should have. It is a very reliable, resilient, and robust type of pump able to take almost any kinds of liquid. That is why there are so many companies in the manufacturing industry that use it.
