Expert Tips On Enhancing Energy Efficiency Oklahoma

By Jerry Powell

The average energy consumption for every home in US is over 2,100 dollars. While some will spend more and others less, such consumption should be tamed by all means. This is why energy efficiency Oklahoma experts have pointed at areas where a lot of wastage is witnessed and proposed ways of reducing this consumption. Here are some of the tricks that have been proposed.

Install programmable thermostat in your house. This is a trick that will save you approximately 10 percent of your total consumption. Thermostats are designed to switch off air conditioning when the room has achieved the desired level of heat or cold. With a programmable thermostat, the switching on and off will be automatic. This means that your air conditioning will not be running unnecessarily. You do not have to be physically present to switch it off.

Lights and appliances that are not in use should be switched off. The fact that you have been receiving a constant bill does not translate into your genuine consumption. Some of the consumption is taken up by idle appliances like computers, lights in rooms that are not in use, televisions with the ON signal running yet no one is watching, and such other unnecessary wastage.

Change the bulbs around your house. Traditional bulbs were not designed with energy efficiency in mind. Today, you have a chance to reduce consumption by between 30 percent and 80 percent. There are such options as CFL, halogen incandescent and LED, among others. You can see the eco-friendly label somewhere on the bulb.

Keep your gadgets and appliances well maintained. When any appliance is faulty, it is bound to consume more power than necessary. It is such inefficiency that will result in an inflated bill. Through maintenance, consumption is kept in check and justified.

The gadgets and appliances in your house should be updated. The latest models are incorporated with state of the art technology that reduces the amount of energy they consume. When buying such appliances as dish washers, fridges, AC systems and washing machines, among others, ensure that they are rated as efficient. This technology reduces consumption while still ensuring that you enjoy the best services.

Keep your house properly insulated and all holes sealed. This ensures that heat or the cool breeze generated by your AC system does not escape. If it escapes, you end up overworking your AC system which inflates your bill. Further avoid opening appliances like the fridge, oven and even doors to different rooms unnecessarily. Opening the door means that the controlled condition is altered. The appliance will have to overwork in order to restore the heat or cool that was lost with the open door.

Use natural heat and cooling as much as possible. This means opening the windows during summer to get the breeze in and using blinds to keep the sun out of your house. In case it gets cold, allow sun rays to heat your room if they are adequate. Monitor power consumption in order to detect changes that could mean wastage or excessive consumption.
